Ryan Simpson

Ryan Simpson has been in hospital leadership roles for 25 years and is currently Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, TX.  In his role as CEO, he has responsibility for Methodist Hospital, Methodist Children’s Hospital, and Methodist Hospital Landmark.  He has been with Methodist since January 2023.  

Ryan joined HCA Healthcare (HCA) in March 2010 as Chief Operating Officer for Sarah Cannon Cancer Center at Centennial Medical Center and oncology service line executive for the TriStar Division.   Ryan served in HCA’s Continental Division for nearly 12 years.  In 2011, he was appointed COO for The Medical Center of Aurora (TMCA).  In 2017, he transitioned to Swedish Medical Center as COO.  Ryan returned to TMCA in 2018 as CEO where he led TMCA and its three additional campuses through the COVID pandemic – with TMCA serving as a regional transfer facility, opened Centennial Hospital, oversaw the growth of cardiac services which led to national recognition of being named a Top 50 cardiac hospital in the country, the expansion of 40 inpatient behavioral health beds, and multiple outpatient behavioral health satellite locations across the Denver metro area. 

Prior to joining HCA, Ryan started his hospital leadership career in 1997 with the Baptist Health System of East Tennessee (Knoxville) with progressing executive roles and joined Ascension—St. Thomas (Nashville, TN) as COO at St. Thomas—Rutherford in 2006. 

Upon graduating with a B.S. in Finance and Marketing from Birmingham-Southern College, he spent two years in the banking industry in Birmingham, Alabama before attending graduate school.  Ryan received his MBA and a Masters in Health Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).  Ryan and his wife Johanna have two adult children and reside in Boerne, TX.
